Dr. Chuck Jorgensen

NASA Ames Research Center: Chief Scientist

Dr. Jorgensen is Chief Scientist for Neuro Engineering at NASA’s Ames Research Center in Silicon Valley. He holds a Ph.D. in Mathematical Psychology from the University of Colorado Boulder and has worked in academia, industry, and government including Carnegie Mellon University, Martin Marietta, the US Army Research Institute, and Oak Ridge National Laboratories. He has over 200 publications and 19 patents and patents pending in aeronautics, neural engineering, and robotics. He is a senior member of IEEE and recipient of numerous awards including three NASA medals for exceptional scientific contributions. In 2009 he received the AIAA Information Systems medal for outstanding career achievements in robotics, machine learning, human factors and control.

 

His pioneering research in subvocal speech was finalist for the 200K international Saatchi & Saatchi prize for world changing ideas. His current research focuses on neural/machine interfacing, biological based computing, biometrics, and machine classification of human emotions.
