The Future of Medicine: Human Organs Straight from the Printer
Professor Gabor Forgacs is shaping the future of medicine, because his company has developed a 3D printer that can print human tissue. The technology is already capable of printing individual veins and blood vessels. In the future, it is also likely to be used for "printing" more complex organs such as hearts and livers, which can then be used for testing new medicines. Later, it will be able to produce organs that can be used as implants in human patients. Animal tissue can also be printed, however: Prof. Forgacs has already tasted a printed steak.
For his revolutionary research results for the future of medicine, Gabor Forgacs received the AutoVision Innovation Award at the 11th Annual 2b AHEAD Future Congress.
